4 Types of Cloud Computing for Businesses

May 23rd, 2019 by admin

Cloud computing has taken the business world by storm with its myriad of benefits for different types of organizations, especially small to midsized businesses (SMBs). Operating in the cloud allows you to share and store your data, programs, and applications in a secure data center and is primarily managed and monitored entirely by a third-party provider. The information that is stored can be accessed from anywhere in the world if you have internet connectivity. Essentially, you are renting server space from your desired provider; so instead of purchasing your own servers and IT equipment for storage, this system allows you to have a convenient, secure and flexible way to access your data, applications, and software on a server without the heavy equipment and exorbitant costs.

Cloud computing offers many ways of improving productivity and operations, including the ability to collaborate easily with team members and other organizations, effortlessly expands as your business grows, and offers high-level protection for sensitive company data. Additionally, in the event of a catastrophic event, all of your information and data stay safe and secure within the cloud, so utilizing the cloud makes for a crucial element to your business continuity and disaster contingency planning. There are four different types of cloud computing for businesses: public, private, hybrid, and community. Depending on the type of business you have determines which style of cloud computing works for the needs of your operations.

  • Public Cloud is offered on a free or pay-as-you-go basis. Google, Amazon, Microsoft, and Windows all provide public cloud services (i.e., Windows Azure and Google Cloud). This service is available to the public, easy to access via the internet, and offers numerous applications and features for businesses to use.
  • A private cloud can be managed by either your own IT team or by a third party. A private cloud service is excellent for added security and gives you more control over access, safety, and scale. It is an internal network that resides on your own private intranet and is protected behind a firewall, so upgrades, management, and maintenance are the responsibly of the company. The private cloud is best for organizations that require a higher level of protection due to highly sensitive data.
  • Hybrid cloud computing is a combination of both private and public cloud models. So, you still have the benefit of storing highly sensitive information behind a firewall with the ability to also utilize storage like emails on a more public domain. This system can save you a lot in costs, and you get the best of both public and private cloud computing styles.
  • On a community cloud, you can have several companies operating on the same private intranet, this allows for multiple companies to collaborate and work together. This system offers enhanced firewall security in a private cloud with the same great features and applications of the public cloud.
